Well, thank God we are past that phase.

However, we have entered a new phase, one that eliminates the role of artists.

What does that mean?

Now that technology has evolved and we are seeing AI and software becoming part of the artistic process, most people wonder if the process will still be considered artistic. This also raises questions on the criteria of being called an artist.

Does this mean AI is now considered an artist? How AI & digital tools are contributing to the visual art and culture?

If you are also curious about all these questions then keep reading. This write will help you address all these questions and more about the visual art in the era of AI and digital artwork.

The Evolution of Art from Brush Strokes to Digital

Over the last few years, we have seen technology taking over every phase of life. This is not just limited to the basics of businesses and how we conduct simple thing but also extends to digitalization of nearly everything.

For instance, if we had to compare multiple internet services just a few years ago, we would have done everything manually. Handpicked the providers then arranged them based on availability, price and other features. Now, things have changed, there are self-help online tools and sites, that allow us to compare internet providers near us within just a few minutes.

This is quite similar to what we are noticing now with art and culture. Gone are the days when creating a painting would require years to complete and painting a portrait meant long sitting hours. Now, thanks to digital arts and tools, outcome is better and you don’t need to worry about time.

If we look at the overall evolution of the art, we have come a long way. From the early days of painting all the way to black & white pictures, then digital film and now the art done by AI.

So, does this mean AI is the artists now?

The concept is quite odd; in fact, it has left most people scratching their heads. Let us explore this question together.

Can AI Qualify As An Artist?

Before we start answering this question, it is very important to know that before AI, there was a concept of digital art. This means that while the medium of art was different, there was always an artist behind it. People would use online tools and software to create art.

Simply put, brush and paints were replaced with digital canvas. Artists were being trained to work with digital tools, which means that the process was same but the tools were different. You still had to channel your inner creativity, pick colors, and create themes for the art pieces.

Now that AI is involved, things have changed. There is no artists at the back, no training required and you do not need to have command over a tool. You just need to focus on words and the art is created for you.

This means that with right use of language, expressions and words, anyone can turn into an artist. Most people might get confused why art is still considered a type of writing.

So, does this mean art is no longer an alternative expression? Do you have to be a writer just to become an artist?

Is Visual Art a Form of Writing as Well?

Technically, writing is also considered a type of art. This is the reason we think writers are also creatives. However, the biggest issue is that art has no boundaries, which means you can pick your expression.

If you are not very good with words, you can start painting. In fact, if you are not very good with colors, sketching was also a very good option. In short, art was portrayed as something with no boundaries at all.

This clearly points out that in a broader term, writing, painting, video making, storytelling and even visual work all comes under art. Moreover, if you look at art and digital work, the only change is medium. You still need to rely on your brain to create themes and then visualize colors, adjust other details to finally come up with an art piece.

All these things mean that regardless of the method, the definition of art cannot be changed. In the era of AI, now words hold more power than most of us can think. Even kids as young as 5 years can become artists with the use of AI and digital art.

This has also transformed the culture, making more diverse and fluid. Thanks to technology, now there are no hard and fast rules related to culture or art. People are more excepting and flexible toward new ideas, which is helping human race evolve faster. However, there is no way to tell if this evolution is good or bad.

Simply put, AI & digital tools are transforming visual art and culture at a much higher pace. It has now become inclusive, simple, accepting and more impactful.
